William “Bill” Ray Shumaker, 75 of Grafton passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at Rosewood Nursing Home, He was born July 24, 1947 in Grafton, son of the late Charles and Virginia Shaffer Shumaker. Bill is survived by his wife, Sharon McCracken Shumaker, whom he married on July 26, 1969, spending fifty-three years together.
Bill graduated from Grafton High School, Class of 1965, and attended Columbia Tech for two years. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Bill worked twenty-two years at Harmon Construction, and was a project supervisor for WVDOH for twenty -one years. He was a member at the Beulah Baptist Church, American Baptist Men, an Awana class teacher, a kitchen volunteer, and a proud member of the American Legion. Bill enjoyed doing woodworking as a pastime and going hunting and fishing. He loved his family and enjoyed the time making memories with each of them. Bill is survived by two sons, Robert C. Shumaker (Lori) Grafton, Brian E. Shumaker (Cristal) Augusta, WV, four grandchildren, Zachary K. Shumaker, Eli M. Shumaker both of Grafton, Alexander M. Shumaker, Emily M. Shumaker both of Augusta, two great-grandchildren, Logan and Beinley, one brother, Roger Shumaker (Sandy) Grafton.
Friends may call at Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave. Grafton on Thursday, December 1, 2022 from 9:00AM until 10:00AM the hour of the funeral with Pastor David Bess officiating. Inurnment will immediately follow at the West Virginia National Cemetery with full military honors given by the Taylor County Color Guard and the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard.In lieu of flowers please send donations to Disabled American Veterans, 934 Little Stillwell Rd., Davisville, WV, 26142.
