William “Butch” Dayton Kiger 79 of Thornton, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at Taylor Healthcare Center, Grafton, WV., He was born July 19, 1946, in Grafton, son of the late William and Dorothy C. Setler Kiger. Butch was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Ann DeMoss Kiger, November 16, 2021.
Butch was a proud graduate of Grafton High School, Class of 1965. He was a proud veteran of the US Army. For more than twenty years, he co-owned and operated Kiger Custom Meats, working side by side with his beloved wife, a partnership built not only on hard work but on deep love and dedication.
He found great joy in the simple pleasures of life—camping beneath open skies and fishing along the quiet local streams. Some of his happiest moments were spent working on the farm and tending the garden, taking pride in the fruits of his labor and generously sharing the harvest with those he loved.
A quiet man who spoke few words, Butch let his actions tell the story of who he was. His strength, kindness, and steady presence meant more than words ever could. He was deeply proud of his family, and his love and devotion to them shone through in everything he did.
Butch is survived by one son, William “Billy” Kiger; three daughters, Pam Myers, Teresa Cole (Will), and Joyce Smith; twelve grandchildren, Hannah, Kathleen, Jared, Justine, Jaymi, Faith, Mark, Kisle, Tori, Janele, Josh, and Jessica; and many great grandchildren
In addition to his parents and wife, Butch was preceded in death by one grandson, Justin Smith; two sisters, Norma J. Hinebaugh and Shirley Ann Sturms; three brothers, James “Sonny”, Roy, Richard Roy, and Donald Roy.
The family would like to thank West Virginia Caring Hospice, especially the Stephanie’s and Amber, the Taylor Healthcare Center for providing the exceptional care they gave Butch.
