Violet Dale Heavner, 85 of Grafton, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2024 in Morgantown. She was born the Selby Run Community near Webster on March 11, 1939, daughter of the late Troy and Esther Lillian Phillips Fitzwater, Violet is survived by her husband, Harold Edward Heavner. They were married on August 26, 2001 spending more than twenty-three years together.Violet was a graduate from Flemington High School, Class of 1958. She received a BSN and a Masters degree for nursing. Violet worked as a First Nurse Clinician for the WVU Dept of Gynecology and Oncology, at the School of Medicine, Morgantown as a Nurse Clinician, an instructor of Nursing for Salem College, AB College, and Allegheny Community College. She retired with forty plus years in the nursing field with her last employment at Preston Memorial Hospital as a manager in the Drug Addiction Unit. She also had worked at Bartlett Funeral Home doing preneed funeral arrangements. Violet was a member the Blueville Church of Christ. She always thought of others first and had a heart of gold. She loved the time she spent with her family and friends. In addition to her husband Violet is survived by one son, Kenneth C. Gifford lll (Heather); two grandchildren, Kenneth C. Gifford IV, Cayden James Gifford; three sisters, Shirley Stout (Dan), Rose Mary Poling (George), Linda Sharp; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Violet was preceded in death by a brother, Leonard Fitzwater. Family and friends will be received at Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave., Grafton on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 from 4:00PM until 7:00PM and Thursday July 11, 2024 at the Blueville Church of Christ from 9:00AM until 11:00AM the hour of the funeral with Evangelist Jeff Tucker officiating. Interment will be held at the West Virginia National Cemetery.
