Steven “Steve” R. Howdyshell, 56, of Grafton passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on December 20, 2023 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV.
He was born September 25, 1967 in Philippi, WV to Donald R. Howdyshell. He was a 1985 graduate of Grafton High School. Steve proudly served his country as a Senior Airmen in the United States Air Force. He was honorably discharged after serving (1985-1989) at Ellsworth AFB outside of Rapid City, South Dakota.
Steve had a lifelong passion for fishing and the outdoors. Steve, along with loving family and friends made many enduring memories during these fishing adventures. The evenings were spent finding the best local Mom and Pop restaurants where the sharing of past fishing adventures could begin. He had a soft spot for his rescued feline pets. Steve was a hobbyist from baiting making, woodworking, crafting, and preparing special meals for his family and neighbor/close friend Liz Beltner.
He is survived by his devoted, loving, and favorite fishing partner, Lorie, his wife of 36 years. His Father, Donald, one, son Cody (Megan), his beautiful grandchildren, one step-brother Chris Sinsel, sister-in-law Linda (Robert) Stuck, lifelong friend and fishing buddy Ken Parker, and the many others he met along his fishing adventures.
Steve was preceded in death by his father-in-law Odbert W. McDaniel and mother-in-law Ruth B. McDaniel, as well as his step-mother Sharon “Shari” L. Howdyshell and many other special loved ones.
At his request, no viewing or funeral will be held.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00AM, Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at the West Virginia National Cemetery with Chaplain Randy Jennings officiating. Family request to meet at Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave., Grafton, West Virginia at 10:30AM to go in procession to the cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Taylor County Honor Guard, WV Patriot Guard, and the US Air Force Honor Guard.
