Steven Wayne Fairley

Steven Wayne Fairley, 56 of Fairmont passed away on Monday, July 21, 2025 at home with his family by his side. He was born August 7, 1968 in Grafton, son of late Howard and Carolyn Jean Nicola Fairley. Steven is survived by his wife Sarah Fairley, son Ian Fairley (Madison) and daughter Sadie Kirkland. Steven was a devoted husband, father, friend and mentor. His love for his family was the cornerstone of his life, and his impact will be felt for generations to come.

A lifelong West Virginian, Steven graduated from North Marion High School and earned degrees from both Fairmont State and West Virginia University. Since 2002, Steven served as the Executive Director of Academy Programs, a role he held from its inception with unwavering dedication. Over the years, he became a guiding force in the lives of countless young people across the state, a champion of education, opportunity, and support for those who needed it most. His legacy is one of compassion, service, and tireless advocacy.

A dedicated fan of the Washington Redskins and the West Virginia Mountaineers, Steven brought the same passion and loyalty to his teams as he did to his work and family. There was nothing that brought him greater joy than cheering on Ian from little league games to college baseball, watching every swing, pitch and catch with a smile on his face. He also cherished his role in watching Sadie over the years through T-ball, basketball and sat through countless dance recitals.

His love and support were constant and the memories they created together will be forever cherished.

In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by his three brothers, Jim Fairley, Jeff Fairley (Eun Ju) and Chris Fairley (Kim) with whom he shared a lifelong bond of love, laughter and loyalty.

He was a proud uncle to his nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in his heart as well as a community full of colleagues and friends.

Along with his parents, Steven was proceeded in death by his only sister, Rebecca McElroy and niece Megan Powell.

McGraw Ave., Grafton, on Friday, July 25, 2025 at 11:00AM until the hour of the funeral at 1:00PM with Pastor Jimmy Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Bluemont Cemetery for family only. Steven held Fairmont Catholic in high regard and was proud of the education both his children received.
