Steve Katsan Obituary

Steve Katsan, 87 of Grafton, West Virginia  and Arlington, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2020 at Sunrise of Arlington.

Steve was born on August 11, 1932, in Grafton, West Virginia as the son of the late Alexander E. and Mary Elizabeth Katsan. The last of his immediate family, Steve’s death was preceded by his siblings Mimi (Katsan) Karantonis, Perry Katsan, Catherine (Katsan) Poling, Manuel Katsan, and George Katsan.

Steve is survived by niece, Mary Estel and husband Nathan of Grafton, West Virginia, niece, Roberta Poling of Columbia, Maryland, niece, Mimi Kissel and husband John of Goshen, New York, niece, Jennifer Katsan of Levittown, Pennsylvania, and nephew, Steve Poling and wife Donna of Grafton, West Virginia. Also preceding his death was niece, Alexis Katsan Knotts and nephew, Michael Katsan.

For the last few years of his life, Steve was supported by his beloved caregiver, Yaklin Ale.

Steve graduated from Grafton High School with the Class of 1950 and obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from West Virginia University in 1954.  He then joined the Air Force, where he served until he retired in 1975 as a Major. For the next 36 years, Steve worked at the Pentagon for the Department of Defense in Arlington, Virginia.

Steve enjoyed the Washington National Opera and regularly attended performances at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC.

The family requests that donations be sent to the American Parkinson Disease Association in Steve’s name, in lieu of flowers.

Friends may call at Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave., Grafton, on Monday, March 23, 2020 from 10AM-1PM. Private Funeral Services will be held with Pastor Jimmy Johnson officiating. A private funeral will be held at Bartlett Funeral Home with internment immediately following at the West Virginia National Cemetery with full military honors accorded by the United States Air Force Honor Guard.
