Shirley Iris Barcus

Shirley Iris Barcus, 79 of Grafton passed away at Taylor Health Care Center, Grafton, WV., on Tuesday, July 7, 2026. She was born in Grafton, WV. on January 31, 1947, daughter of the late Fred and Elizabeth Summers Peters.

Shirley dedicated many years of her life as a cook at Grafton City Hospital, where she took great pride in caring for others through the meals she lovingly prepared. Her kitchen was more than a place to cook—it was a place where she shared kindness, compassion, and a caring heart with everyone she served. She cherished every moment spent with her family and friends, whose love and companionship filled her life with happiness. Shirley found joy in life's simple pleasures, especially playing her guitar and singing the good old country songs she loved. Her warm smile, gentle spirit, and kind heart had a way of making everyone around her feel welcome, and those precious memories will be treasured forever.

Shirley was Jehovah's Witness faith. Her unwavering belief provided her with strength, comfort, and hope throughout her life, guiding her with grace and giving her peace in every season.

Though she will be deeply missed, Shirley's legacy of love, kindness, faith, and the joy she shared with others will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know and love her.

Shirley is survived by four children, Connie Grinnan, James Barcus,(Sue), Kitty Barcus, and Brenda Mitchell ( Dennis); eleven grandchildren, Travis, Vanessa, Carlea, Gee, Adrianne, Maria, Ashley, Bradley, Trent, Holly and Eddie (Lexi); eleven great grandchildren, Jesse, Nevaeh, Noah, Braydon, Gavin, Jacob, Caleb, Cameron, Lily, Jayce  Sophie, and Melody; niece, Jennifer, two nephews, Fred and George.

In addition to her parents Shirley was preceded in death by one brother, Fred Peters.
