Roger D. “Sarge” Roy, 74, of Grafton, passed away on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at the VA Medical Center in Clarksburg, WV with his family by his side. Roger was born on June 24, 1947 in Taylor County and was the son of the late James William and Jessie Ruth Perkins Roy. He was married to the love of his life, Shirley Rose Carder Roy on September 18, 1979 spending over forty-two years together.
Roger was a graduate of Grafton High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army, where he served in Vietnam, earning three Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. Roger was a member of the VFW 3081, DAV 24, Purple Heart 724, and the Beach Mountain Sportsman Club in Czar, WV. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, trapping, and fishing. Roger loved the time he spent with his family and enjoyed making memories with each of them. He treasured the time spent with his children and grandchildren and considered them his greatest joy. He will be greatly missed by many, especially by his family.
In addition to his wife Shirley, Roger is survived by his daughter Lisa Exline, her husband Chuck and their three children, Chase, Caden, and Bella. His daughter Tracy Swick, her husband Eric, and their son Draken. He is also survived by his daughter Shelly Roy.
In addition to his parents Roger was preceded in death by his brother James W. “Sonny” Roy Jr.
Family and Friends may call at Bartlett Funeral Home, Grafton on Monday, January 10, 2022, from 2-8 PM and Tuesday, January 11, 2022 from 9:00AM until the funeral hour at 11:00AM with Pastor Jimmy Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Woodsdale Memorial Park. Full military honors will be rendered by the Taylor County Honor Guard and the United States Army from Camp Dawson.
