Roger Dale Criss, 80, of Grafton, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, September 22, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born in Grafton on March 22, 1945, son of the late Henry Isaac and Lillian Mildred McDaniel Criss.
On March 28, 1965, Roger married his soulmate, Veronica “Sue” Trisler Criss. Together they shared more than sixty wonderful years, a love story built on devotion, laughter, and countless memories that will live on forever in the hearts of their family.
Roger was a proud coal miner, working at Martinka Coal Mines for twenty-five years before retiring from the Federal 2 mines. Mining was never easy—it demanded strength, courage, and sacrifice—but Roger carried that weight with pride, working tirelessly to provide for those he loved most.
Beyond the mines, Roger lived life with joy and a lighthearted spirit. He loved car shows, especially showcasing his treasured 1946 Ford Coupe. He had a gift for making people laugh and could captivate a room with his endless stories. Roger loved simple adventures, family get-togethers, and quiet walks with his faithful dog, Sadie, who rarely left his side.
His greatest treasures in life were his family. Along with his beloved wife Sue, Roger leaves behind his children, Brian Criss (Amy) and Tina Engle (Buckey); his grandchildren, Colton Criss and Lilley Criss; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends; as well as his much-loved fur grandbabies.
Welcoming him into eternal rest are his parents; his daughter, Dawn Marie Criss; three brothers, Richard, Denzil, and Blair Criss; and two sisters, Barbara “Bobbie” Pratt and Cara Dawn Roach.
A Celebration of Life will be held where family and friends will gather to honor Roger’s memory, share his stories, and celebrate the beautiful life he lived at 2:00 PM, Saturday, October 18, 2025 at the Beulah Baptist Church Ministry Center, with Rev. Stanley Roach officiating. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Stanley Roach Ministries.
