Robert Charles Loar, Jr.
January 29, 1950 – July 6, 2025
Robert Charles “Charlie” Loar, Jr., 75, of Thornton, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at Mon General Hospital in Morgantown. He was born on January 29, 1950, in Grafton, West Virginia, son of the late Robert Charles Loar, Sr. and Lula Geraldine Hendrikson Loar Harding.
Charlie proudly served his country in the United States Army and later spent many years working as an independent contractor in heating & cooling, and sheet metal. Known for his strong work ethic and practical skills, he was respected by all who knew him.
Charlie loved the outdoors — whether riding his 4-wheeler, target practicing, or simply sitting on the porch watching the birds and crows, often with his beloved cat, Momma, by his side. Most of all, he cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren, making lasting memories with every visit.
He is survived by the mother of his children, Jocilyn Gillespie; four daughters: Anissa Williams (Casey), Sabrina Jones (Willie), Samantha Kotora (Marc), and Tabitha Johnson (Brian); one brother, Frank Loar; eight grandchildren: Brittani (Preston), Averi, Chase, C.J., Kaleb, Brooke, Riley, and Jack; and two great-grandchildren: Jaisley and Jailia. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by one sister, Charlotte Grist.
Visitation will be held at Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave., Grafton, on Thursday, July 10, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and again on Friday, July 11, 2025, from9:00 AM until 1:00 PM, the hour of the funeral service.
Interment will follow at the West Virginia National Cemetery, with full military honors provided by the Taylor County Honor Guard and the U.S. Army Camp Dawson Honor Guard.
