Robert Franklin “Frank” Loar, 78 of Grafton, passed away peacefully at his home with his loving family by side on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. He was born on October 7, 1946 in Grafton, WV, son of the late Robert Charles Loar, Sr. and Lula Geraldine Hendrikson Loar Harding.
Frank was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving as an Engineman aboard the USS Investigator (AGR-9) and the USS Essex (CVS-9), a Submarine Attack Carrier during the Cuban Era. A hardworking man throughout his life, he owned and operated Frank’s Diesel Service and was also a dedicated member of the Engineer Local 132. Frank was proud of his heritage, often sharing that he was 65% Scandinavian and proudly identified as a Viking. Known for his friendly personality and never meeting a stranger, Frank made many lasting friendships. Above all, he loved his family unconditionally and cherished the time spent with them, creating lifelong memories.
Frank is survived by, Virginia Lynn Loar, Robert Franklin Loar, Jr.(Kerry) and Destiny (Thomas) Rice, three granddaughters, Kandace (Nic) Simon, Nicole (Cody) Loar, and Shannon Weaver; three great grandchildren, Carter Ducos, Amir Loar, and Yara Loar, Frank first wife, Phyllis E. Jackson Loar; several nieces and nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents and wife, Frank was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Charles Loar, Jr., and one sister, Charlotte Grist, Joy Spino.
Family and friends will be received at Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave. Grafton, WV. on Monday August 11, 2025 from 4:00PM to 7:00PM and again on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 from 9:00AM until 12 Noon, the hour of the funeral service with Pastor Todd Jarman officiating . Interment will follow at the West Virginia National Cemetery, with full military honors provided the Taylor County Honor Guard and the US Navy Honor Guard.
