September 4, 1943 ~ May 30, 2022 (age 78)

Penelope Lou Barcus, 78 of Grafton, passed away Monday, May 30, 2022 at her home with her family by her side. Penelope was born in Fairmont on September 4, 1943, a daughter of the late Donald P. and Mary Kathryn Wolfe Smith, she is survived by her husband James William Barcus, they were together for thirty -eight wonderful years.

It is very sad day and I have a broken heart as my Mom’s time on earth is over.  I know she is no longer struggling with the terrible disease of Alzheimer’s dementia.  She has been struggling with this for 20 years - age 58.  She and my stepdad retired when they were 60.

In the next few month’s time she and my stepdad would have been married 38 years.  He is going to have a rough go of it.  She was a RN and 3-11 shift supervisor at the old United Protestant Hospital.  She went on to teach nursing assistants at United Technical Center.

I have lost my best friend.  I will think of her and remember her each and every day!

RIP MOM - I will always love ❤️ you the “mostest!”  I’m glad you are no longer suffering!

She is survived by, Jodi Rosier (Mike) Fairmont, step-children, James H, Barcus (Sue), Brenda Lee Mitchell (Dennis)  Kitty Barcus,  Connie Barcus, many grandchildren.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three brothers, Jim Smith, Mike Smith, Donald Smith, one sister Carol Sue Edwards.
