Norma Shuman Obituary

Norma Lee Shuman, 81 of Thornton, passed away at her home with her loving family by her side on Monday, July 13,2026. She was born in Grafton on March 13, 1945, daughter of the late Lee Ellis and Martha Bell Stewart. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Dale Shuman, September 20, 2004.

Norma was a member of Thornton United Methodist Church and a proud, active part of her community, where her kindness and gentle spirit touched the lives of many. Norma and Anna Mae were known as the Thornton Dueo’s that sang whenever they had the opportunity. She loved Christmas and relaxing while watching a good western. She found great joy in tending to her beautiful flowers and working in her garden. Some of her happiest moments were spent sitting peacefully on her porch, watching the wildlife wander by while listening to the soothing songs of the birds.

Always selfless, Norma was the kind of person who was there whenever someone needed a helping hand, a comforting word, or a listening ear—giving of herself until she simply could no longer do so. Her soft-spoken nature, compassionate heart, and unwavering generosity will be remembered with deep love and gratitude by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Norma is survived by one daughter, Wanda Shuman (longtime companion William Sager); one brother, Robert Stewart; one grandson, Joseph Riddle (Deidre); one granddaughter, Sarah Riddle; and three great grandchildren, Noah, Maggie and Winter, many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband Norma was preceded in death by six brothers, Lee Edward Stewart, David Stewart. Carl James Stewart, Ellis Stewart, Ray “Bud” Stewart, Dale Stewart and three sisters, Karen Stewart, Anna Mae Bolyard, and Gloria Carpenter.
