Michelle Mayle Obituary

Michelle Renae Mayle, 59, of Grafton, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 25, 1966 in Kokomo, Indiana, the cherished daughter of Richard Bradford and Constance Bussard Hill.

Michelle is survived by her devoted husband, Dayton Lee Mayle, Jr., whom she married on May 26, 1994. Together they shared more than thirty-one beautiful years filled with love, laughter, and countless memories.

A proud graduate of Western High School in Russiaville Indiana, Michelle attended Middle Tennessee University and Fairmont State University. She lived a life of service and dedication, working as a Veterinary Food Inspection Specialist for the U.S. Army, a Matron at the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office, and later as a Lieutenant with the Taylor County Emergency Squad for ten plus years.

Michelle had a deep love for her community and a heart for helping others. She worked tirelessly with programs such as Shop with a Cop, the Taylor County Art Gallery, the Salvation Army including its Angel Tree program, she was a member of the Grafton Vol. Fire Department, and contributed to countless local initiatives through her grant writing and volunteer efforts. Wherever there was a need, Michelle was there — ready to help, lead, or lend a hand.

Her greatest joy, however, was found in her family. She was a devoted mother who was always involved in her boys’ lives — serving on the PTO, cheering from the sidelines as the team mom, and supporting every project, sport, and activity they pursued. Michelle loved being outdoors, especially when she could spend time fishing or simply enjoying the company of her family. Her greatest happiness came from being surrounded by those she loved most.

Michelle is survived by her husband, Dayton, and her beloved children: Nathaniel Sumpter (Marina), Clinton Mayle (Shelby), Dalton Mayle (Lauren), and Zachary Mayle (Kathryn); her adored grandchildren: Anthony, Tanner, Everett, Hudson, Sophia, Lilly, and Abigail; and her three adopted children: Tristenn Cochran (Alexis), Michael Austin Marcavage (Alana), and Michael Casseday (Quinn). She also leaves behind her brother, Robert Ira Hill (Marnie); sister, Danielle Ellingwood; stepfather, Lindan B. Hill; and several nieces and nephews who will always hold her close in their hearts.

She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Sean Thomas Sumpter, and her brother, Lindan Jerome Hill.

Family and friends will be received at Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave., Grafton, on Monday, November 3, 2025, from 2:00 PM until 7:00 PM, and again on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, from 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM, the hour of the funeral service with Lay Speaker David Arnold officiating.

Interment will follow at the West Virginia National Cemetery, with full Military Honors accorded by the U.S. Army Camp Dawson Honor Guard and the Taylor County Honor Guard.
