Mary Elizabeth “GiGi” Swisher, 91 of Thornton passed away on Monday May 18, 2026 at her residence with her family by her side.
Mary was born in Barbour County on December 26, 1934, The daughter of the late Clem G and Edna F. Riggs Shuman.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband Harry J. Swisher, five siblings, James W. Shuman, Herbert R. Shuman, Joseph D. Shuman, Kenneth G. Shuman and Iris JaneJones.
Additionally, Mary is preceded in death by her granddaughter Amanda M. Boyles, great granddaughter Hannah Grace Price, and grandson-in-law, Robert B. Price.
Mary is survived by two children, David J. Swisher and wife Sheila "Susie"of Grafton and Sharon D. Boyles, and husband Jeff of Thornton. Four grandchildren Heather Cain of Mt. Clare, Bethany Price of Thornton, Amy Milbrand and husband Doug of Morgantown, Joel Swisher and his wife Jessica of Charleston, Six great grandchildren, Grant Cain, Elliot Cain, Kendall Cain, Hadlee Price, Corbin Price, and Eilee Jo Swisher.
Mary is survived by one sister -in-law, Norma Shuman of Thornton and several nieces and nephews.
Mary was a homemaker who enjoyed working with her flowers, spending time outdoors in the sun and visiting with friends and family. Mary was a Methodist by faith and she attended the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church until she was no longer able to do so.
At this time the family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of WVU Hospice.
And lastly a heartfelt thank you to her granddaughter, Bethany who made it her mission to make certain GiGi’s wishes were honored and for holding her hand through this entire journey.
Family and friends may call at Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave., Grafton on Thursday, May 21, 2026 from 4:00PM until 7:00PM and on Friday, May, 22, 2026 from 9:00AM until 10:00AM the hour of the funeral with Pastor Jimmy Johnson officiating.
