Lawrence Edward “Ed” Grinnan, 90, of Grafton, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, May 26, 2024. He was surrounded by his family, and was holding the hand of the love of his life, his wife, Helen P. (Johnson) Grinnan. He was born January 2, 1934 (one, two, three, four, a unique birthdate that he was particularly glad to call his own). He was a son of the late William Henry Grinnan and Elizabeth I. (Hession) Grinnan.
Ed and Helen were united in marriage November 20, 1955, they had nine children, surviving are: Larry Grinnan, Andy Grinnan and wife Debbie (Harman), Sally Blair and companion Doug Kellner, Ben Grinnan, Phil Grinnan, Peter Grinnan, and Steven Grinnan and companion Beth Hofmann; he was preceded in death by two sons, Danny Grinnan and James Grinnan. Also surviving are: one sister, Martha Cole Shanabarger, one brother, Charles “Jody” Grinnan, and wife Bobbi; one sister in law, Mary Poe Grinnan; and a multitude of grandchildren; great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins; and life long friends.
In addition to his sons he was preceded in death by: two grandsons, Nicholas Grinnan and Caleb Blair; one sister, Miriam Delaney; and three brothers, William “Bill” Grinnan, Jr., David Grinnan, and John Paul Grinnan.
Ed was a 1952 graduate of St. Augustine Catholic School, and a life long member of St. Augustine Catholic Church. He was retired having worked as a machinist for Morgantown Machine and Hydraulics. All who knew Ed knew him as a kind man and true gentleman. He was most proud of his beautiful wife Helen, their story was an example of pure love that spanned more than 68 years. He graced all of his children and grandchildren with a lifetime of music and had a special love of bluegrass music. He was a member of Goldengrass, and spent many hours playing music and making many cherished lifelong friendships including Bill McCartney, Brooks Flesher, Chuck Howell, Dave Clark, Tim Peters, and Steve Harvey, and many other musical friends that he cherished.
Friends may call at Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave., on Sunday, June 2nd, from 12 noon until 6 pm. A mass of Christian burial will be conducted on Monday, June 3, 2024, at 10 am, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 17 W. Washington Street, Grafton, with Father Joseph Abraham officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
