Katheryn Dean Obituary

Katheryn O. “Kate” Dean, 97 of Grafton passed away at the residence of her son Kenneth Dean in Fairmont, Sunday, May 17, 2020. She was born in Volga, WV. July 26, 1922, and is the daughter of the late Kara Robert and Ida Pearl Foster Manley. She was preceded in death by her husband, L. G. “Grant” Dean on July 21, 1989.

Kate was a graduate of Philippi High School, Class of 1942. She was a devoted member of the Blueville United Methodist  Church, where she held many offices, loved music, sang in the choir,  and enjoyed sending cards. She held the office as President for the Womens Missionary for many years at the Blueville United Methodist Church. Kate enjoyed walking all over Blueville and visiting with her many friends. She was a good cook and loved trying new recipes. Kate’s family  was the most important thing in her life and is now celebrating with her heavenly family. She worked at J.C.Penneys and  Dr. Connor’s dentist office in Grafton.

Katheryn was  the last surviving member of her nine brothers and sisters. Kate is survived by three children, Kenneth F. Dean and wife Ruthanne, Fairmont, Pamela Teagarden and husband Richard, Grafton, and Kevin Dean, Morgantown; eight grandchildren, John Teagarden, Morgantown, Jeff Dean and wife Kim, Belington, Meredith Augustin, Brooklyn, NY, Kara Assael and husband Dylan, Beacon, NY, Jennifer Armentrout  and husband Johnny, Morgantown, Rick DuBois and wife Holly, McDonough, GA, Ryan DuBois and wife Rebecca Huntersville, NC; ten great grandchildren, Bobby Lynn Dean, Kayla Dean, Nico Augustin, Nina Augustin, Wiles Assael, Ashland Assasel, Sydney Armentrout, Hannah Armentrout, Emma Porter, Hannah Knittel,two great great grandchildren, Poppy and Beau; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Robert L. Dean, four sisters, Evelyn Kittle, Betty Marteney, Jean Fenstermacher, Helen Maxson, four brothers, Thomas W. Manley, Kenneth R. Manley, Robert Manley, James Manley.

A Private Family service will be held at 11:00 A.M on Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at the Bartlett Funeral Home and Crematory, 202 McGraw Ave. Grafton, WV 26354.  The Rev. David Spence will officiate and interment will follow Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Philippi. The family extends their sincere appreciation for the loving care given to Kate by Hospice, WV Central Services Inc. and her wonderful cargiver Ginger Harbert during the last month at Kenny’s. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be may to: Blueville United Methodist Church 195 Blueville Dr. Grafton WV 26354. We will be webcasting the service on her memorial page on the funeral home website. If for some reason the webcast drops we will finish recording and reload once completed to watch.
