John Robert Watkins Sr.

John Robert Watkins, Sr. 95, of Grafton, passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at Grafton City Hospital.  He was born November 15, 1930 in Oak Grove, the son of the late Leo Jefferson and Violet Gertrude Stevens Watkins. John was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Ethelyn Canfield Watkins who passed away on February 22, 2013.

John began his working life at Steinbeck Service Station, where he greeted customers with a steady smile while pumping gas and learning the hands-on skills of servicing and repairing vehicles. He later took a position at Ozite, a custom rubber compounding manufacturer, where he dedicated many years of hard work and loyalty.

Beyond his formal work, John was widely known and deeply appreciated for his exceptional meat-cutting skills. He spent countless hours helping families, always willing to give his time and talent to those who needed it.

John was a determined and strong-willed man, but above all, he treasured his family and friends. He found true joy in being together—talking, laughing, and sharing stories—creating memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

John is survived by his children, one son, George W. Watkins (Barbara), two daughters, LaDonna Knotts (Jay), Peggy Lea Watson; eight grandchildren, Craig, Misty, Brian, Sharla, Rebecca, Jonathan, Cori and Noah; several great grand children; daughter in-law, Sharon Watkins. 

In addition to his parents and wife, John was preceded in death by one son, John Robert Watkins, Jr., March, 2025.
