John Lester Messenger, 87 of Grafton, passed away on Friday, December 3, 2021 at Stonerise Healthcare Center Clarksburg. John was born April 25,1934 in Tunnleton. He was the son of the late Howard and Marie Bolyard. He was married to the love of his life, Delores “Sis” Messenger who passed away on March 6, 2021, they shared more than sixty-five years together.
John was a veteran of the United States Army, retired from Carpenters Union Local 436, Clarksburg. He enjoyed rabbit and coon hunting and raising beagles. He liked to work with his draft horses on the farm and being outdoors. He loved time spent with his family and friends and making memories with each of them.
In addition to John’s parents and wife he is preceded in death by one son James Patton.
John is survived by son Keith Messenger, wife Judy, of Grafton; one daughter Pamela Kisner, husband Arlie, eight grandchildren, Heather Patton, Jason Patton, Jimmy Patton all of Grafton , Brandon Patton of Florida, Joseph Nestor of Georgia, John Ball of Grafton, Amanda Messenger, of Morgantown, Nancy Clark, of California, seven great grandchildren; Alexis Mollohan, Adylynn Clark, Aden Patton, Dillon Patton, Leah Patton, Hailey Patton and Cole Ball, one sister Jean Hershman of Tunnelton, one daughter in-law Betty Patton and by several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at Bartlett Funeral Home, Grafton on Sunday December 5, 2021 from 2PM-7PM, and on Monday December 6, 2021 from 9:00AM to 11:00 AM the hour of the funeral with Pastor Terry Osborne. Interment will follow at the West Virginia National Cemetery.
