JoAnn Sturm Obituary

JoAnn Sturm, 94, of Grafton passed away Monday, June 8, 2020 at Grafton City Hospital with her family her side. She was born in Buckhannon, June 7, 1926, the daughter of the late Guy William and Meta Nixon Deane. JoAnn was preceded in death by her husband Floyd Ashby Sturm on June 12, 2017. They were united in marriage November 21, 1957 and spent 60 wonderful years together.

She attended Grafton High School for three years and Buckhannon-Upshur High School her senior year. JoAnn owned an antique shop for thirteen years. She participated in two antique shows a year at the Middletown Mall in Fairmont with the assistance of her family. JoAnn was a member of the New Testament Fellowship Church for many years and attended Wesley Chapel Church in later years. She taught Sunday school and Bible Study. JoAnn was an avid quilter and made many scripture quilts for the ill. She raised four successful children which she felt was her greatest accomplishment in life. JoAnn will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was a member of the Grafton Woman’s Club where she donated several of her quilts as fundraisers and received many blue ribbons with her work. JoAnn was involved in starting two churches, God’s Word of Life Church at Maple Lake, which she named, and  the Love and Grace Church in Ft. Myers, Fl.

JoAnn is survived by three children,  Janet Kay Dowdell and husband Jeffrey, Richmond, VA, Kimberly Jean Larch and husband James, Weirton, WV, Deana Jo Martin and husband James, Spotsylvania, VA,  daughter-in–law, Beverly Sturm,  Bluffton, SC;  nine grandchildren, Brandon Sturm and Corrie, Shanna Boggs and Joe, Jodi Clawson and Henry, Justin Dowdell, Jennifer Mikula and Christopher, Julie Larch, and fiancé’ Eyad, Jason Larch, Katie Honaker, and Ryan, and Joshua Martin, and Zanaab, fourteen great grandchildren, Samson, Mycah, Maxim, Aslan, Mills, Brady, Michael, Elizabeth, Ellie, Matthew, Andrew and Victoria, Castan and Mckenzie.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one son, John William Sturm and one sister, Jean Roig.

Family and Friends may call at Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave. Grafton Thursday, June 11, 2020 from 3-7 PM with proper distancing and face mask required. A private funeral service will be held Friday,  June 12, 2020 at 12:00 PM Noon, with Pastor Judy Flynn and Pastor Jimmy Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Woodsdale Memorial Park.
