James Ralph Reed, Jr., 72 of Charleston, WV, formerly of Grafton, passed away in the early morning of October 10, 2020 at UPMC Mercy hospital in Pittsburgh, PA surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Grafton, August 2, 1948, son of late James “Ralph” Reed Sr. and Dolores Ann (Rosier) Reed, both from Grafton. Jim was preceded in death by his sister, Teresa “Terry” (Reed) Gay. He is survived by his wife, Pamela “Pam” L. (Williams) Reed of Grafton; daughter Jennifer D. (Reed) Mueller and husband Travis, granddaughters Rachel and Natalie; son James “Jimmie” R. Reed III and wife Jillian, grandson Lincoln; brothers John L. Reed, and Gerald L. “Jerry” Reed and wife Debbie.
Jim graduated from Grafton High School in 1966. He graduated from WVU in 1970 with a bachelor’s degree in Geology. He then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps to attend officers candidate school. From there, he earned his wings and bravely piloted the CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter. After retiring from the military as a decorated captain, he worked for the National Weather Service as a flight service specialist.
Jim was a devoted husband to his soul mate and one true love, Pam, a loving father, an avid hunter, and lover of animals. His sense of humor was unlike any other. Everyone who knew him loved him dearly.

Family will receive friends at Bartlett Funeral Home 202 McGraw Ave Grafton, WV 26354 on Friday, October 23, 2020 from 9:00AM to 10:45 AM, with proper distancing and face mask required. A Mass for Jim will be celebrated at the St. Augustine Catholic Church at 11:00AM Friday, October 23, 2020 with Father Binu Sebastian officiating, Interment will follow in the WV National Cemetery where full Military rites will be accorded by the Taylor County Honor Guard and the WV Army National Guard of Camp Dawson.
