Guy Raines Obituary

Guy Clifton Raines 86, of Grafton– Entered this realm on February 6, 1935 and transitioned to a Higher Elevation on October 23, 2021.

Guy was raised during simpler times in a humble environment by his parents, Earlie Raines and Kate Vandevander Raines. As a child, his father nicknamed him,“Buck” which stayed with him throughout his life time. After his father’s untimely death, his mother remarried Luther Hedrick who taught Guy about respect, dignity and God.

Guy was truly a jack of all trades. He was employed as a train brakeman and conductor, truck driver, mechanical engineer, carpenter and farmer. He was actively climbing roofs in his 70’s and repairing automobiles in his 80’s.

In August 1959, Guy had an encounter with a light strawberry haired beauty named, Nancy Thomas. Their union lasted nearly 50 years which produced four children, nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Guy’s love of nature gave reason to be outdoors. Some of the activities the brought him pleasure were hunting, camping, and traveling with his family on surprise road trips. Buck enjoyed corresponding with lifelong friends and family whether by snail mail, in person visits or late night phone calls. His devilous grin and unique laugh could brighten the darkest hours.

In August 2006, the bond between Guy and Nancy was tested by the unexpected death of their son, Guy Jr. The combined strength and love of one another never waivered during their time of grief. However, in May 2009, Guy was devastated by the loss of the love of his life, Nancy. Once again, the love and support from his family and friends brought him solace during his darkest hours.

Guy’s children, Robin Gallatin, Wendy Raines and Daniel Raines were blessed to be by his side during his final days of life. Guy donated his body to the West Virginia Human Gift Registry. His family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the research of Glioblastoma in his honor to ABTA, https:// give.abta.org.

Dad was a true warrior and a spiritual being from sunrise to sunset.
