Gertrude “Trudy” Gay McKinney, 69 of Grafton passed away on Friday, November 21, 2025 at United Hospital Center in Bridgeport. She was born in Baltimore, MD., on June 10,1956, daughter of the late James Ralph and Shirley Jesse Lough Lattea.
Trudy worked in the home health field at the Summit Center, where she poured her heart into caring for others. She truly loved the people she served, and along the way she built many lasting friendships with the families she met.
Trudy found joy in the simple things—tackling the challenges of the games on her phone, losing herself in word searches, and heading out shopping whenever she had the chance. She never met a stranger; her warm, easygoing nature made it effortless for her to connect with anyone she met. Above all, her greatest joy in life was her family, who she loved with all she had.
Trudy is survived by four children, Melanie Swisher (Jason), Sandra Knotts (Bryon). Matthew McKinney (Justin), Shirley Ann Surkamer, grandchildren, Ashton (Tatun), Lantz (Hannah), Hunter (Abby), Auston, Braxton, Tamra Tyler, Corey, Sydnee Noah, great grandchildren, Symphony, Harper and Bentlee,
In addition to her parents Trudy was preceded in death by two brothers, Dillard Henline, James Gordon Lattea, one sister, Thelma Springer.
To honor Trudy’s wishes, she will be cremated. Inurnment will take place at a later date at the Sommerville Cemetery in Lost Creek, West Virginia. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.bartlettfuneralhomewv.com. Bartlett Funeral Home is honored to serve the McKinney family.
