George Shahan

George Shahan, 65 of Grafton, passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at his home. He was born December 27, 1960 in Philippi, son of the late Leon Weaver and Margaret “Lucille” Carlyle Shahan. 

George was a self-employed contractor whose worn, steady hands told the story of a life devoted to building—creating something new from nothing or restoring what time had nearly taken away. There was a quiet pride in his work, a deep satisfaction that came from shaping the world around him.

He felt most at peace outdoors, under wide open skies, where hard work blended with simple joy. Whether he was on a job site or sharing laughter with friends, those moments carried a warmth that stayed with you. He loved settling in on an afternoon to watch his favorite teams, especially WVU, finding excitement and comfort in every game.

But above all else, George’s heart belonged to his family. They weren’t just important to him—they were his whole world. Every moment spent with them was treasured, filling him with a sense of belonging and love that nothing else could match. With them, he was truly at home.

George is survived by four sons, Adam George Shahan (Stephanie), Samuel William Shahan (Jessica), Ben Elam Farance, and Ricky Lynn Ross (Marie); ten grandchildren, Kayla, Isaac, Jayce, Payton, Kenzie, Emily, Aden, Jake, Jasper and Aspen; mother of his children, Laura Jane Farance Shahan; two brothers, Gary Shahan and William Kenneth Shahan.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by three brothers, Randy Lee Shahan, Ernie Weaver and Lonnie Weaver and one sister, Diane in infancy.
