George D. Gallaher of Grafton, WV entered into eternal life on February 1, 2023.
George was a lifetime resident of Grafton and graduated from Grafton High School with the class of 1953. George enlisted in the Navy after graduation and served as a Radioman on a ship in the Sea of Japan. After he returned to Grafton George married Donna Smith the love of his life, to whom he was married 53 years. George’s spirit is carried on by his four children, 10 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and extended family of relations and friends.
George was employed by West Virginia Plastics as a day shift foreman for 35 years. Upon retirement he was able to spend time with the most important people in his life – his family.
We were blessed to learn many things from George in his 87 years of life. George believed every person has value and deserves kindness. He practiced selflessness doing for others because it will benefit them and not expect anything in return. George exemplified humility in never wanting recognition or praise – his joy was in giving of himself. Patience and love for family was an important part of life for George and he was always the first to offer assistance when needed. George taught us to take chances – ask questions, work hard and learn from our mistakes. He taught us to say “please”, “thank you” and especially “sorry” when you needed to. George served the community and touched many lives, most notably coaching sports and being a role model for children and parents. George always made sure every member of the team got to play and taught that sportsmanship was more important than winning.
George is survived by his four children: Deborah Gallaher of Grafton, WV, Daniel Gallaher of Grafton, WV, Susan (Gallaher) Buchanan of Grafton, WV, and Kathryn (Gallaher) DeCerbo of Olean, NY.
