Florentino Lorenzo

Florentino “Flo” Lorenzo, 79, died peacefully at his residence in Bartlett, TN due to Parkinson’s disease on May 24, 2021.  He was born on July 22, 1941, in Clarksburg, WV to Joseph and Anna Sestina Lorenzo.

Flo graduated from Notre Dame High School in Clarksburg, WV, and immediately joined the Army where he served his country for 4 years.  He then attended Salem College.

Flo married Elaine Hathaway and settled in Clarksburg, WV, where he worked for Union Carbide Corporation.  Flo and Elaine were transferred to Columbia, TN in 1979 with UCAR and raised their children there.  They were transferred again in 1988 to Clarksville, TN where they lived until his retirement.  He served as a real estate broker for several years and they moved to Bartlett, TN to be closer to family due to his illness.

Flo loved boating with friends and family, Corvettes, his dogs Abba and Windy, and, most of all, his five grandchildren.  He was known for being direct, but unfailingly kind and generous.  He was his children’s hero in every way.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Anna Lorenzo.  He is survived by his wife Elaine Hathaway-Lorenzo; daughter Michelle “Shelly” Lorenzo-Surbrook, son-in-law Scott Surbrook, and granddaughters Laney and Elizabeth; son Joe Lorenzo, daughter-in-law Rebekah Smith-Lorenzo, and grandsons Joseph, John Thomas, and Jack; and a multitude of cousins.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Flo’s memory to the Michael J. Fox Foundation would be appreciated by the family because of the foundation’s support of Parkinson’s disease research and treatments.  

Visitation will be held at the Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave, Grafton, WV 26354 on Tues, June 1,st from 3:00-7:00pm.  The funeral will be held on Wed, June 2nd at 11:00am at the Bartlett Funeral Home with burial to immediately follow at the West Virginia National Cemetery, Grafton, WV. with Pastor Katie Ware officiating, full Military rites will be accorded by the Taylor County Honor Guard and Honor Guard from Camp Dawson, A reception will follow at the White Front Tavern and Grill, RR2, Grafton, WV.   Bartlett Funeral Home is honored to service the Lorenzo family.
