Elva (Nestor) Wolfe, 95, of Knottsville community, went to her heavenly home Sunday, April 16, 2023. She was born at home in Lucretia September 21, 1927 to parents, the late Lorn and Onda (Shafer) Nestor. Later, the family moved to their Knottsville farm. Elva attended Knottsville School, Central High School, and Grafton High School, graduating in 1945.
Working in a neighbor's corn field, she met the love of her life, Ellis R. Wolfe, when they were 15 years old. They eloped July 3, 1948 to Oakland, MD. For 57 years, until Ellis' death in 2005, they enjoyed their farm activities - tapping trees and making maple syrup, apple cider, apple butter, gathering black walnuts and berries. Elva was known for her homemade breads, comfort foods, jams, and popcorn balls. Elva and Ellis also enjoyed traveling to 49 states (except Hawaii) Canada, Mexico, and many trips to Nashville's Grand Ole Opry.
In early years, Elva worked at the Hazel Atlas Glass Factory and McCrorys 5 & 10 until becoming a fulltime homemaker and mother. She was an active member and officer of the Glade Run Homemakers Club and the Knottsville United Methodist Women. As a lifetime and faithful member of the Knottsville United Methodist Church, she served as a Sunday School teacher until she was 89.
This talented seamstress and quilter, shared her numerous efforts with family and friends. Elva was an avid reader and loved country and gospel music, singing her favorite songs until the last week of her life.
Elva's loving, kind, and gentle spirit will be missed by many especially her surviving daughters and sons-in-law: Kay & Mike Boyles and Marilyn & Roy Rogers; and "Nanny" to 7 grandchildren and spouses: Carly & Brent Harris, Dustin & Julie Kisner, Deveran & Shawn George, Jarret & Vanessa Boyles, Miami FL, Clinton & Gina Rogers, Carson & Amber Rogers, Cape Coral, FL; and Chase & Scotti Rogers, Parrish, FL. Also surviving are 15 great-grandchildren: Josie & Colton Bray, Jada & Derek Silman, Ashley & Jake Sheme, Joey Charlton, Megan Kisner, Jennah Charlton, Ollie Rogers, Tanzer George, Autumn George, Ellis Rogers, Cam Rogers, Brynn Rogers, Harper Rogers, Annabella Boyles, and Tessa Rogers; and 5 great-great grandchildren: Harris and Emma Silman, Mila and Rylyn Sheme, and Lilly Bray. Elva's surviving siblings are Ruby Gough, Montgomery, AL, Willis Nestor, Shirley Wolfe, Jane Rinker, Ople Shroyer, Patty Mick, brothers and sister -in-law, Bill and Patty Wolfe, Charles Wolfe, and Wanda and Terry Nesler. along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Elva was preceded in death by sister Maxine Hovatter; brother Lloyd Nestor; four sisters-in-law Wilda Nestor, Pat Nestor, Joanne Wolfe, and Dorothy Schooley. six brothers-in-law Ira Hovatter, Frances Gough, Ralph Wolfe, Fred Rinker, John Mick, and Charlie Schooley.
Family and friends will be received at Bartlett Funeral Home, 202
McGraw Avenue, Grafton WV on Thursday April 20, 2023 from 3:00PM until 8:00PM and Friday April 21, 2023 from 9:00AM until 11:00AM the hour of the funeral with Pastor Jimmy Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Woodsdale Cemetery.
