Elod Geza Lakatos

Elod Geza Lakatos, 81 of Grafton, WV, passed away on Friday, July 24, 2026 at his home with his family by his side. Elod was born July 1, 1945 in Sculnuck, Germany, son of the late Bendek and Margit Szalacs Lakatos is survived by his loving wife Selinia Ann Wolfe Lakatos, they were married forty-three beautiful years.

Elod's early years were marked by hardship, spending much of his youth living in refugee camps. Those experiences shaped his character, teaching him resilience, gratitude, and the value of opportunity. When he came to America, he embraced the chance to build a better life, working tirelessly to achieve his dream of becoming a United States citizen.

Becoming an American was one of the proudest accomplishments of his life. He deeply loved this country and never took the freedoms and opportunities it offered for granted. Equally dear to his heart was the community of Grafton, where he built his life, formed lasting friendships, and proudly called home. Elod's quiet determination, unwavering work ethic, and genuine love for both his country and his community left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Elod believed in the value of hard work and dedication. After graduating and completing two years of college, he entered the workforce, and enjoyed life on the road as a truck driver. Never one to slow down he then began a career in maintenance before retiring from Con-Air.  He was a volunteer fireman at the Banksville, New York for twenty-seven years.

A devoted Catholic, Elod was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, where his faith and commitment to serving others were reflected throughout his life.

He found his greatest peace in the simple beauty of God's creation. Whether taking a leisurely drive through the countryside, admiring the rolling hills and changing seasons, or sitting quietly on the porch watching the wildlife, Elod appreciated every moment nature had to offer.

More than anything, Elod treasured the time he spent with those he loved. He never missed an opportunity to visit, share stories, or enjoy a conversation with family and friends. His grandchildren held an especially special place in his heart—they were his greatest pride and joy, and he thought the world of each of them. The love he shared, the wisdom he offered, and the countless memories he created with them will remain a lasting gift that his family will cherish forever.

Elod is survived by one daughter, Cassie Sherlock (Thomas); one son, Dr. Robert Lakatos (Heather); seven grandchildren, Emily, Ashley, Sarah, Meghan, Cameron, Annika, and Gavin; one sister, Emese Borbas.
