Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Gump, 79 of Grafton, passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. Betty was born in Fairmont, WV, March 21, 1941, a daughter of the late William V. and Margaret J. Brummage Booth. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald “Don” Gump July 25, 2015.
Betty was the owner of The Grafton IGA that started out as The Garden Fresh but was locally known as Gumps’ Store with her husband Don. Betty graduated from Mannington High School and ran a day care for children out of her home for many years. Betty was a devout Christian; she was an active member of Beulah Baptist Church in Pruntytown. Throughout her life she served the community as a Girl Scout Troop Leader, worked with the local PTA, and hosted several exchange students. She was awarded the Mother’s Day Shrine “Mother of the Year Award.” In her final years she enjoyed car rides and working puzzles. Betty held a passion and a drive to work hard at whatever she did.
She is survived by four children, Deborah G. Emerson and husband Peter, Waynesboro, VA, Richard D. Gump and wife Audrey, Timothy W. Gump and wife Melissa, Donna Darlene Weber and husband Gerald “Busty” all of Grafton, five grandchildren, Gregory T. Weber and wife Sabrina, Margaret “Meg” N. Emerson and fiancé Ray Dugan, Helen “Elly” P. Emerson, Todd M. Gump and wife Stacey, Rachel A. Audia and husband Ryan, Cody Mullan and fiancé Cassidy and Ryan Mullan, great grandchildren, Rowan Pace, Addison Pace, Beau Gump, Mattelyn Mullan, Brooks Dugan one sisters, Nancy Sindelar Cleveland, OH, special friends, Catherine Cool Costello and Mike Drake and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her sister, Caroline J. McNiel.
