Edward "Eddie" Lane Austin

Edward “Eddie” Lane Austin, 85 of the Knottsville community passed away at his home Monday, February 20, 2023. He was born in Grafton on January 7, 1938, son of the late Oakley and Ocean Hauser Austin. Eddie was the last surviving member of his family.

Eddie was a graduate of Grafton High School, Class of 1956. He worked at the United States Postal Service with over forty years of service as a substitute mail carrier. Eddie was a long-time member of the Knottsville United Methodist Church. He loved the outdoors, planting and working in his garden while he shared his harvest with his family and friends. Eddie also enjoyed planting flowers and seeing them bloom during the different seasons. He was a man of his word and a supporter of his community and helped with projects whenever he could. Eddie enjoyed people and especially spending time with his special nephew, Terry A. Austin, niece, Michelle Austin and great nephew, Jeremiah Austin and his family. He will be greatly missed by them and all who knew him.

Eddie is survived by his nephew, Terry A. Austin, niece, Michelle Austin, a great nephew Jeremiah Austin and his wife Cheryl, a great-great nephew, Isaiah Austin, a great-great niece, Laurel Austin.

In addition to his parents Eddie is preceded in death by his sister, Alice Frey and two brothers, Neil Austin and Roy Austin.

Family and friends will be received at Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave., on Thursday, February 23, 2023 from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM and on Friday, February 24, 2023 from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM the hour of the funeral with Pastor Judy Flynn officiating.
