Dorene Isabelle McCartney

Dorene Isabelle McCartney, 76 of Knottsville, passed away on Monday, September 11, 2023 at her home. She was born in Grafton on May 29, 1947, daughter of the late Elzie Eli and Mary Isabelle McKinney Poston.

Dorene graduated from Grafton High School, Class of 1965. She worked for the Bell Telephone Company, as an operator, at the Blueville Bank as a proof operator, and retired from the WV DHHR. Dorene was a faithful member of the Mt. Pleasant Church. She liked cooking, baking and working in the garden sharing her goodies with her family and friends. Dorene enjoyed taking pictures and scrapbooking capturing many treasured memories. 

Dorene is survived by her husband, George William McCartney,  children, Barbara Dorene Tennant (Donnie), “Rusty” Russell McCartney (April), step-children, Scott William McCartney (Lynette), Shannon Wayde McCartney (Mili),Cindy Jo McCartney (Rick), grandchildren, Cajun, Candice, Scotti, Tori, Taylor, Stacie Dorene, Stephen Paul, Samantha,  great grandchildren, Hadessah, Elijah, Grace, Oliver, Harper, Ellis, Tucker, Avery, Kallie, and Sarena,  two sisters, Donna Jean Zemonick, and Marlene Poston.

In addition to her parents Dorene was preceded in death by, three brothers, Elzie Poston, Jr. and Stephen Paul Poston, Marvin “Butch” Poston, one sister, Shelly Poston.

A graveside service at Dorene’s request will be held at 11:00AM on Friday September 15, 2023 at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery with grandson Stephen Paul Tennant speaking.
