Donald "Donnie" Sapp Obituary

Donald Jackson Sapp Sr. (Donnie), age 90, of Grafton, WV, passed away peacefully at home on March 18, 2025. Born on April 21, 1934, he was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to many.

Donnie graduated from Grafton High School in 1952.  He was a dedicated member of the Good Shepherd Church in Grafton, where he and his wife were active for over 50 years. He was a devout believer in the saving grace of Jesus Christ.

Donnie had a wide range of interests, including golfing, bowling, lawn-care, WVU Sports, coin collecting, and fishing.  Over the years, he enjoyed traveling with his wife and family and deeply valued spending time with his children, grandchildren, and extended family.

Professionally, Donnie was a Journeyman-Wiremen Electrician and a proud 60-year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 425 & 596. Following his retirement, he continued to serve his community as the Clerk of the Works for the Taylor County Board of Education, overseeing numerous school projects.

Donnie always had a story to tell and lessons to teach anyone that would stand still long enough to listen.  He was a jokester and loved to pick on the people he cared for most.  His playful nature and sense of humor were a hallmark of his character.

He is survived by his loving wife of almost 70 years, Linda Preston Sapp.  Also surviving, one sister Shirley Duryea, Sister-In Law Carol Rogers (Proctorville, OH) and two sons, Donald “Jack” Sapp Jr. (wife Susie) and Jeffrey Sapp Sr. (wife Lisa) of Grafton.  He also leaves behind four grandchildren, Jeffrey Sapp Jr., Erin Mlinarcik (husband Jarrod), Sara Franciosi, & Trisha Sapp, and four great-grandchildren, Jacob & Lexi Mlinarcik, Jordyn Sapp and Elijah McDaniel, all of Grafton; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Edith Sapp, three siblings, James “Rach” Sapp, Joann Howell, and Paul “Fert” Sapp, as well as two sons, Kenneth Sapp and Rodney Sapp, and one grand-daughter Jennifer June Sapp.
