Donald "Donnie" Gull Obituary

Donald A. Gull, 82 of Grafton, West Virginia (WV) passed away on January 17, 2026, at his home with family by his side from a long illness of dementia.  He was born on July 15, 1943, in Grafton, WV to the late Gearl and late Cora Gull.   He was the 11th of 11 children and was raised on a farm where Donnie learned how to be the best farmer anyone knew.  Donnie graduated from Grafton High School in 1962 and while in school was a member of the Grafton Bearcat football team.  He cherished his teammates’ friendship through his life.  After school he worked for Dawson Mines, and met the love of his life, Edith Gull.  After marriage, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served in the Vietnam War and earned a Purple Heart.  After returning home from the war, he worked and retired from the Equitable Gas Company as an Inspector.   He and Edith lived on his family’s farm and had four children: Jeffery Gull, Michell (husband Yannick) Curry, Melissa (the late Eugene) Robinson, and Sandra (the late Joshua) Schooley. Donnie and Edith raised their family in the one church, and he was added to the Lord’s church through obedient baptism to the commandment of the gospel at the Blueville church of Christ.  There he served as a deacon for years.  They also attended Whitehall church of Christ in Fairmont for many years.   He was loved by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, and all 10 of his siblings and their spouses listed:  Everett (Nina) Gull, Frank (Betty) Gull, Leona (Norman) Weaver, James Gull, Francis (Bob) Barta, Corrine (Charlie) Weaver, Alfreda (Bob) Fritz, Jean (Bill) Woods, Geraldine (Jim) Murphy, and Dallas Gull). Also, his first-born son, Jeffery Gull, granddaughter, Brenna Robinson, grandson Cage Schooley, nephews, Bobby Tennant, Charles Weaver, and Pat Weaver and great niece, Amanda Zolobkowski.

He is survived by his wife, Edith and his children Michell (Yannick), Melissa, and Sandra, grandchildren (Kayla (Dusty) Murphy, Alexa Curry, Megan (Doug) Burton, and Trace (Lauren) Schooley), and great grandchildren (Hayden Robinson, Jordn Chocky, and soon to arrive in February 2026 Rhett Schooley).  In addition, he is survived by one sister-in-law, Betty J. Gull, and one brother-in-law, Kenneth Fortney plus several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family would like to express their sincerest appreciation to the Amedisys Hospice Care, Registered Nurses Amy Turner and Jeannette Larew, and workers Allison Everson and Hannah Ellifritt. In addition, a special thank you to Tanya Hershman from Home Instead for her daily care of Don.
