David Rathbun Obituary

David Lloyd Rathbun, 91, of Clarksburg, passed away on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at the Taylor County Health Care Center in Grafton. He was born November 9,1933 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, son of the late Ellis Bailey and Claira Merle Tennery Rathbun. David is survived by his wife of 51 years, Delma Lea Law Rathbun whom he married on February 16, 1974. David graduated from Central High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He went on to receive his Bachelor's Degree at Graceland University and Master's Degree in Mathematics from the University of Tennessee. He served his county in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was employed and later retired from NASA as a computer engineer where he worked on all space shuttle launches. David loved counseling and ministering to youth at the Deer Haven Church Camp in Florida, as well teaching swimming to more than 3 generations of youth and adults. He also refereed and coached soccer, as well as baseball. His hobbies included lifeguarding, square dancing, biking, canoeing, kayaking, and various other exercises. He also loved to travel with his family.

David is survived by three children: Thaddeus David Rathbun and wife Teresa Lynne Rathbun from Louisiana, Margaret Dell Rathbun Harwood and husband Doug Harwood from Arizona, and William Todd Rathbun and fiancé Kimberly Lemley from West Virginia. David had 8 Grandchildren: Matthew Rathbun, Christina Rathbun, Elizabeth Hyde, Zackery Rathbun, April Rathbun, Justin Rathbun, Joshua Chrislip, and Shyanne Rathbun. He had 7 Great Grandchildren: Leon Rathbun, Audrina Christian, Alexia Rathbun, Roman Rathbun, Grayson Rathbun, Braylin Markovich, and Bentley Markovich. David is also survived by his sister, Joy Rathbun; brother, Hubert Rathbun and wife Terry; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by 4 siblings: Victor E. Rathbun, Amy Delores Rathbun, Melinda Bird Rathbun, Rosella "Rose" Shelton, as well as a Great Granddaughter, Amanda Lea Rathbun.

Bartlett Funeral Home in Grafton is handling the cremation.
