David Blake Boyce of Grafton passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at United Hospital Center on the evening of June 23, 2023. He was 82 years old. David was loved and admired by his family and friends. Born January 22, 1941, in Kingmont, West Virginia. David was raised in the Gladesville area of Preston County. He attended high school in Fairmont, West Virginia. He served honorably in the USS Hermitage in telecommunications sending messages in morse code. David, and his former wife Wilma Hershman, moved to Grafton in 1964 where they raised their six children. David worked as a foreman for West Virginia Plastics for over twenty-five years. Later in life David worked as a ground- keeper for Tygart Lake Gold Course until retirement. David was congenial and well respected. His children and grandchildren were a central part of his life, his annual Christmas party was a highlight for the family. David possessed an inquisitive mind; he was avid reader and history buff. He loved music, playing guitar in a local band when he was younger, and enjoyed gospel music as he got older. He loved his dogs
"James Cagney" which was a gift from his cousin Jim, and "Spanky" was a rescue. David Boyce was preceded in death by his parents Opha Bryan Boyce and Bertha Mae (Smith) Boyce, son Michael David Boyce and daughter-in-law Gloria Boyce, his brother Leslie Donald Boyce, Paul Leonard Boyce, and sisters Dorthy Ilene Thorn, Bonnie Jean Boyce and Betty Jean Boyce. David is survived by five children, Sherry (Jason) Matthews of Grafton, Christina (Douglas) Flohr of Grafton, Candace Jill (Anthony) Warash of Hillsboro North Carolina, Greg (Jenny) Boyce of Grafton, Mark (Lori) Boyce of Grafton, ex-wife Wilma Hershman of Grafton, sister Joann Ellen Cale of Independence, and Jim Braddock of Tennessee, considered a brother and best friend. David is survived by thirteen grandchildren and fourteen greatgrandchildren.....with one on the way. David will be greatly missed by his family.

Family and friends will be received at Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave., on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 from 3:00PM – 7:00PM and on Thursday, June 29, 2023 from 9:00AM to 10:00AM, the funeral hour, with Vicar Ken Tolley officiating. Interment will follow at the WV National Cemetery with full military honors given by the Taylor County Honor Guard and the US Navy Honor Guard.
