Clara Jean (Kines) DeMoss

Clara Jean DeMoss, 94, of Grafton, WV passed away Wednesday September 4, 2024, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital. She was born October 3, 1929 in Grafton, the daughter of the late Leslie Kines, Sr., and Prema Casteel Kines. Clara Jean was preceded in death by two husbands, Henry “Dick” DeMoss and former husband Wayne “Scout” Knotts.

Clara Jean was a graduate of Grafton High School, Class of 1947. She worked at the Baby World, Taylor County Board of Education, and Grafton City Hospital where she also volunteered many hours in the gift shop. Clara Jean was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Grafton City Hospital Auxiliary, and the Blueville United Methodist Church. Clara Jean loved spending time with her family, feeding her neighborhood cats, eating M&M’s, steak, cheeseburgers, spaghetti, and buckwheat cakes. She closely followed the West Virginia Mountaineers football and especially the basketball teams coached by Bob Huggins.

Clara  Jean is survived by two daughters, Pamela (Jimbo) Suba and Beverly (Bill) Stewart; grandchildren, Gloria Jean Scotchel (Frankie Alvaro), Brandon Stewart, and Jeffrey Suba; step granddaughter Crystal Oliver; step great granddaughter, Bryanna Oliver; great grandchildren, Mycah Claira Scotchel, and Maddox Scotchel; niece, Kay (Dave) Williams; nephews, Paul (Debbie) Kines, and Steve (Debbie) Kines.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Clara Jean was preceded in death by a sister, Geraldine Gott and brother-in-law Raymond; a brother, L. D. Kines, Jr.; sister-in-law Frances, and step grandson, Rick Suba.

Family and friends will be received at Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave., Grafton, on Monday, September 9, 2024 from 2:00PM until 6:00PM and Tuesday, September 10, 2024 from 9:00AM until 12:00PM the hour of the funeral. with Pastor Ken Heiney officiating. Interment will follow at the West Virginia National Cemetery.
