Christine Elizabeth (Mantle) Travis, 77, of Grafton, West Virginia, died on November 30, 2025, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown as a result of injuries sustained in a car wreck.
Chris was born on February 26, 1948, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to the late Thomas and Marie (Sebastian) Mantle. She grew up in Library, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Peters Township High School in 1966.
She married Harry Travis, Jr. on October 5, 1968, and together they shared 57 years of marriage. In 1976, they made their home on Cherry Run Road in Grafton, where Chris lovingly raised her family. Family meant the world to her and she devoted her life to caring for them. She ended every phone call and visit with the words she meant most deeply: I love you.
Chris devoted her life to raising her children, who were her greatest joy. Together with her husband, they were “The Seatweaver,” restoring woven chairs for many years. She worked at Valley Mental Health Center before retiring to care for her mother.
She enjoyed sewing, baking, cooking, reading, tending her flower beds, researching her family ancestry, and spending time with her beloved dogs—most recently Max, Andy, and Barney. To her grandsons, she was affectionately known as “Fuff”, a name that brought her great happiness and reflected the special bond they shared.
She is survived by her husband, Harry Travis, Jr. of Grafton; three children, Laura Schmidt (Robert) of New Town, ND, Harry Travis III (Lani) of Flagstaff, AZ, and Sarah Rushton (David) of Medina, OH; her grandsons Levi Schmidt, Rylan Travis, Isaac Rushton, and Asher Rushton; siblings Tom Mantle (Monica) and Bill Mantle; sister-in-law Susan Daniels (Paul); and Autumn Flohr Young, whom she lovingly thought of as a bonus daughter. Chris is also survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, and many close friends and neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Marie Mantle; her in-laws, Harry Sr. and Dorothy Travis; and her infant daughter, Alicia Travis, whom she never stopped loving.
The family will gather to remember and celebrate Chris’ life at a later date. Cremation will take place, with burial at the West Virginia National Cemetery in Grafton.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff at Ruby Memorial Hospital, as well as their family, friends, and neighbors for their support and kindness during this difficult time. Chris was a proud liver cancer survivor - the family is eternally grateful for the 14 bonus years they had with her.
Chris donated blood regularly until the time of her cancer diagnosis. In lieu of flowers, please consider becoming a blood donor. Or, since she loved dogs (especially rescues), consider volunteering or donating to an animal shelter of your choice in her honor.
