Bernard Lee Moyer, Jr. 77 of Grafton passed away at United Hospital Center on Saturday, December 30, 2023 with his loving family by his side. He was born in Grafton on June 24, 1946, son of the late Bernard Lee and Pauline Robison Moyer, Bernard is survived by his wife Joyce Jones Moyer whom he married May 23, 1969 spending over fifty-four years together.
Bernard graduated from the St. Augustine Catholic School, Class of 1965. Bernard joined the Grafton City Fire Department in 1965, becoming a Captain in 1967, he retired in 1991 after twenty-eight years of service as a paid firefighter and two years as a volunteer firefighter. He began teaching fire service courses through the West Virginia University Fire Service Extension in 1969. When these courses became a function of RESA, he continued teaching (part-time) Firefighter I & II, Fire Officer 1 & 2, Hazardous Materials, American Heart Association First Aid/CPR/AED. He has been awarded Honorary Membership in many fire departments including the Kingwood Volunteer Fire Department in recognition and appreciation of his teaching skills and dedication to the fire service. Bernard was the judge of fire and emergency apparatus for forty-eight years at the Preston County Buckwheat Festival.
Bernard is survived by three children, David Shaw (Vicky), Diana Armstrong (Mike), Kelly Lockhart (Mark) ten grandchildren, Chelsea (Kyle), Jordan (Jenny), Desirea, Jason (Miranda), Tyler, (Marissa), Timber (Skyler), Kaisen, Paisley, Skylar (Skylar), and Katara (Tim), fifteen great grandchildren, Kenleigh, Keegan, Evan, and Savannah, Brayden, Bryleigh, Paislee, Bentley, and Addison, Khole, Wyatt, Claire, Jackson, Kylee, and Emslee, one brother, Mike Moyer (Debbie), several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bernard is preceded in death by one granddaughter, Kelsea, one great grandson, Gabe; one brother, Johnny; and his in-laws, Findley and Anna Marsh Jones.
Family and friends will be received at Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave., on Thursday, January 4, 2024 from 2:00PM until 7:00PM and on Friday, January 5, 2024 from 9:00AM until the hour of the funeral at 11:00AM with Pastor Jimmy Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to his care fund on his memorial page.
