Bernard “Bernie” Anderson Jones, 80 of Grafton, WV, passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at Rosewood Nursing Home Grafton, WV, He was born March 26, 1946 in Paris France, son of the late Junior Paul Jones and Michelle Josette Renault Jones Gonyea.
Bernie was a proud graduate of Grafton High School, Class of 1964. He was a proud veteran of the US Army serving his country from November 1965 until March 1967. Bernie then began his career with the B&O Railroad in 1969, dedicating himself to his work for decades until his retirement in 2015.
He found simple joy in life’s quiet moments—watching old westerns and cheering loudly, with unwavering pride, for WVU Football. Whether working or enjoying his free time, Bernie loved being outdoors, especially the peaceful hours spent by a stream with a fishing line in the water.
Above all, Bernie cherished his family. The time he spent with each of them meant everything to him, and the love he shared will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Bernie is survived by one granddaughter, Destiny Loar (Thomas Rice); one great granddaughter, Avabelle Joy Rice; two brothers, Gerald “Boub” Jones (Katherine) and Michael Paul Jones; two cousins from Paris France, Pascal and Sophia; a niece, Tammy and nephew, J.J.
In addition to his parents, Bernie was preceded in death by his son, David Michael Jones.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00AM Thursday, April 16, 2026 at the West Virginia National Cemetery with full military honors accorded by the US Army Honor Guard and the Taylor County VFW Honor Guard. The family request meeting at Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave., Grafton at 10:30PM to go in procession to the cemetery.
