Arnold Eugene “Gene” Dalton, 88, of West Hill Community, passed away Saturday, February 7, 2026 at Rosewood Nursing Care Center. He was born October 27, 1937 in Grafton, son of the late Robert C. and Eunice M. Newman Dalton. Gene was preceded in death by his wife Matilda Jane Parsons Dalton, September 22, 2011.
Gene worked many years as a coal miner and also spent a great part of his life digging graves at Simpson Cemetery and others in the county. He took deep pride in the work he did and in the honor of serving families during their most meaningful moments. Gene was an easy-going, kindhearted man who was always willing to lend a helping hand and truly never met a stranger. His community was his family, and his family was his heart. Gene found joy and peace in worshipping alongside his friends and loved ones. He cherished strong family ties and treasured every moment spent together — whether celebrating life’s milestones or simply gathering to make memories. Those moments meant everything to him, and the love he shared will live on through all who were blessed to know him.
Gene is survived by four sons, Timmy Dalton (Treasa), Danie “Butch” Dalton (Karen), Kevin Dalton (Crystal), Gregory Dalton (Jennifer); eight grandchildren, Kim, Shawn, Natasha, Samantha, Christopher, Dustin, Jonathan, and Andy; five great grandchildren, Lilly, Madelyn, Landon, Myron, and Marlee; son in-law, Carl Miner; special friend, Cora Boyce; three brothers, Fenton Dalton (Erma), Richard Dalton (Judy), and Stanley Dalton (Pauline); several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
