Antoinette “Jean” Gaines, 84 of Wendel, passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at her home with her loving family by her side. She was born June 12, 1939 in Flemington, daughter of the late William McAfee and Italy George Messenger, Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Dale Gaines on May 30, 2007.
Jean was a homemaker. She was an avid Mountaineer, Bearcats and Steelers fan. She loved to travel and spend time with her family. Jean enjoyed sewing and cooking.
Jean is survived by five children, Debra Couch, Morgantown, Sheila Felix and husband Michael, Becky Bartlett and husband Greg, Howard Gaines and wife Krista, and Julie Royce and husband Chad, all of Grafton; thirteen grandchildren, Christopher, Brennan, Jared, Amanda, Hunter, Bobby (Amber), Brad (Wade), Beau, Raven (Kris), Mason, Gavin, Ellie, and Sky; five great grandchildren, Ryleigh, Adeline, Olivia, Roz, and Emmy; three sisters, Esther Kelley, Bridgeport, Linda McAfee (John), Grafton, Nancy Boylen, Buckhannon; two brothers, John McAfee, PA, Charles McAfee (Donna), PA; numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Jean is preceded in death by, three children, Vivian Sickles, Bruce Gaines and Glen Gaines; son-in-law, Ronald Couch; two brothers, Nick and William “Billy” McAfee.
Friends may call at Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave., Grafton, on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 Grafton, from 3:00PM until 7:00PM and on Thursday, August 10, 2023 from 9:00AM until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 Noon with Vicar Ken Tolley officiating.
