Andrew Wayne Crews, 90 of Grafton passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at his daughter’s residence in Cleveland, OH. He was born June 4, 1932 in Evansville, IN, son of the late Jesse Verle and Verna Sams Crews. There, Wayne graduated simultaneously from F. J. Reitz and Mechanic Arts High Schools, with a certificate in Airplane Mechanics. After graduation, he found work in Cleveland OH as a Tool & Die maker, a Machinist, and door and window installer. In 1973 he married June Fox and moved to WV, where he earned his Master Plumber license. He was, very humbly, a Jack of All Trades and Master of Most; he loved fixing things. Wayne was known as a gentle, kindly, and giving person, beloved by those who knew him. A devout minister of Jehovah’s Witnesses for over 70 years, Wayne served in several congregations in Cleveland: West Side, West Park, Lakepark, and for 47 years, in the Grafton WV Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He was a familiar sight in Grafton, walking through neighborhoods, engaging passersby in conversation about his favorite subject: God’s Kingdom. He was an active Bible Teacher, and door-to-door minister, encouraging everyone he met to read their Bibles, even providing them with one if they had none, offering Bible-Based literature to all. Wayne firmly believed Jesus’ promise that “the meek will inherit the earth,” (Matthew 5:5) and looked forward to the resurrection under Christ’s reign, in Paradise on earth. (Luke 23:43) Wayne was preceded in death by his first wife of 19 years, Carol Antey Parsons, and by his dear wife of 47 years, June Lovis Crews. He is survived by his brother, Samuel Crews (Jocelyne); combined family, Joyce Crews Hain, Marietta Crews Crapps (Delroy), John W Crews (Jeanne), Douglas E Crews, Patricia Fox Yanda, Linda Fox Coady (Shawn Cromett) Joan Fox Novotny (David), Brenda Faye Fox (James Balfour), Melba Fox Lemley (Ed); a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Wayne was preceded in death by his siblings, David Crews, Eleanor Perkins, George Crews, Vernon, Crews, and Jesse Crews. A Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at 2:00pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1866 Trap Springs Road, Grafton, WV 26354.
