Mildred Jane Summers, 77, known to many as “Janie,” went to be with the Lord on December 4, 2019, at Rosewood Center in Grafton, WV after a long battle with dementia.
She was born September 22, 1942, in Grafton, daughter of the late Harold C. Griffith and Thelma Board Griffith.
She graduated from Grafton High School in 1960, and went on to attend St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Clarksburg, WV. After working as a nurse, she left the nursing field to put all of her time into being a homemaker and raising her daughters. She enrolled at Fairmont State College to earn a degree in education when her daughters were older, and was a teacher at Flemington Elementary School and Anna Jarvis Elementary School. She is fondly remembered by many former students, and impacted lives in a meaningful way. She left the grade school classroom to take a position in special education, working with severely disabled children. She loved music, and singing in church. She was a devout christian. She was a devoted wife and mother, and adored her grandchildren.
Surviving are her husband, Carroll L. Summers; three daughters, Rhonda S. Braham and husband Paul, of Gladesville, WV and children Mary Jane and Ben, Rebecca “Becky” A. Lake and husband Rick of Grafton, WV, and children Josie and Kelly, and Molly B. Greene of Fairmont and children Sidney, Abby, and Hallie, and their father Kevin Greene. She is also survived by one brother, Robert “Bob” Griffith of Fairmont, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by brother Harold Griffith Jr., and sisters Betty Plymale, Lula Smith, and Mary Shuman, and nephew Mike Shuman.

Memorial Service will be at Beulah Baptist Church in Pruntytown on Sunday, December 8, 2019 at 2:00 pm, Rev. David Bess officiating.
Graveside service will be at the West Virginia National Cemetery on Monday, December 9, 2019 at 11:00 am, Pastor Jim Carder officiating.
