Betty Bonner Obituary

Betty Lou Bonner, 89, of Wilson Ridge passed from this life to the next on Saturday, November 16, 2019 after a short illness at Ruby Memorial Hospital. Bonner was born on November 16, 1930, a daughter of the late Dennis Phillips and late Lena Lake Phillips of Grafton.

In addition to her parents, Bonner was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Frederick Bonner, two sisters, Louise Pratt and  Dorothy Holdridge.  She is survived by two nieces, Cora (Polly) Forman of Grafton, and Barbara Moyer and husband Carl of  Franklin, NC, as well as, her cousin and life-long friend, Flora Grob of Grafton.

In addition to being a homemaker, Bonner spent much of her life at the bedsides of friends and family, caring for them in their time of need.  Bonner would frequently gather with her fellow “Wilson Ridge Church of Christ Golden Girls” (Mary Etta Rockhold and Flora Grob), to enjoy the festivities and a meal at the Taylor County Senior Citizens Center.  On a weekly basis, Bonner looked forward to being pampered like a royalty by her loyal beauticians, and then served and treated as a queen by the staff of Jerry’s Restaurant.

Two faithful ladies from the Taylor County Health Department, Alice Stewart and Melissa Barker, aided Bonner’s final years of health and happiness.  These dear souls went above and beyond their call of service, treating Bonner as a precious jewel to be adored.

Bonner’s joy in life was her service at the Wilson Ridge Church of Christ.  In addition to faithfully attending services and traveling to Gospel Meetings, Bonner would participate in Ladies Inspiration Day, bake and then serve cookies at Vacation Bible School, and then in later years, keep a watchful eye over the youth during Friday night youth group sessions, Sunday afternoons after lunch, and during camp at the Majestic Eagle Christian Youth Camp.  Bonner was never blessed to have children of her own, but was adopted by the youth of the church as their “Aunt Betty.”

Betty Bonner’s remain are to be cremated, and a memorial services will be conducted at the Wilson Ridge Church of Christ on Friday, November 29, at 11 a.m., Evangelist Robert Jennings officiating.
