Geraldine "Jerry" Sturm

Geraldine "Jerry" Sturm, 91, of Grafton, passed away , Thursday, April 16, 2015 at Grafton City Hospital. She was born in Grafton October 28, 1923, a daughter of the late Ralph S. and Mary Moreda Lake Gibson. Her husband James F. Sturm, whom she married , February 10, 1945, preceded her in death March 19, 2001.
"Jerry" enjoyed life to the fullest. She attended church all of her life, beginning in Webster as a young child. She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church. She graduated from Grafton High School Class of 1940. She was Chief Deputy County Clerk of Taylor County. She enjoyed quilling and collecting antiques. Her home was always open to her many friends and family, especially on Memorial Day, with lots of good food and laughter. Many people that she didn't even know just stopped by and enjoyed conversation and good food. Over the years Senator Robert C. Byrd, Senator Jay Rockefeller, Governor Bob Wise, and Governor Joe Manchin stopped by her home and were treated like family. And in years to come when in town they always came to Jim and Jerry's home to see their friends.
She is survived by two children, James M. Sturm and wife Diana , of Huntington, WV. Jill Annette Matthews and husband Tony, of Waldorf, MD., one grandson, Connor Austin Matthews, two step grandsons, Kenneth Santmyer and Paul Anthony Matthews, a step granddaughter, Amy Lynn Matthews, a great step grand daughter Lilly Ryan Santmyer, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by: one daughter, Janon Elaine Sturm, and one sister, Alice Jane Hlynosky.
Friends will be received at Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave. Grafton on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 from 11:30AM to 1:00 PM. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00PM. Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at Bartlett Funeral Home with Rev. Bert Coffman officiating. Interment will follow at WV.National Cemetery.
