Floyd Ashby Sturm

Floyd Ashby Sturm, 92, of Grafton passed away Monday, June 12, 2017 at Grafton City Hospital with his family by his side. He was born in Webster, October 14, 1924, son of the late Holtzberry Glen and Ethel Reynolds Sturm. Floyd is survived by his wife JoAnn Sturm whom he married November 21, 1957. Floyd was in the United States Marines during World War ll. He served in active duty in the South Pacific and his platoon was the first to go into Nagasaki when the Atomic Bomb hit. He served our country for three and half years. He worked for the B & O, C & O and Chessie Railroad where he retired as a conductor at age 60. Floyd graduated from Grafton High School Class of 1942, where he played football under Coach McKinney. He enjoyed hunting and fishing at his camp in Grant County. Floyd attended Church every Sunday where he was treasure in WV and FL and he loved the Lord. Floyd was a member of New Testament Fellowship Church and in the later years, Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Grafton Masonic Lodge #15AF&AM. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. He loved to work in his garden and being with his family. Floyd is survived by four children, John William Sturm and wife Beverly, Bluffton, SC, Janet Kay Dowdell and husband Jeffrey, Richmond, VA, Kimberly Jean Larch and husband James, Weirton, WV, Deana Jo Martin and husband, James, Spotsylvania, VA; nine grandchildren, Brandon Sturm and Corrie, Shanna Boggs and Joe, Jodi Clawson and Henry, Justin Dowdell, Jennifer Mikula and Christopher, Julie Larch, Jason Larch, Katie Honacher and Ryan, and Joshua Martin, twelve great grandchildren, Samson, Mycah, Maxim, Aslan, Mills, Brady, Michael, Elizabeth, Ellie, Matthew, Andrew and Victoria. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Collins. Family will receive friends at Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave, Grafton, on Wednesday June14, 2017 from 4-8PM and on Thursday, June 15, 2017 from 9:00AM until time of service at 11:00AM with Pastor Judy Flynn and Pastor Jimmy Johnson officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the VFW Memorial City Post #3081, American Legion Taylor County Post #12, Central WV DAV Chapter 24 and their auxiliaries, and the US Marine Corps.
