Dorothy Helen Fortney

Dorothy Helen Fortney (86), known as "Dot" to her family and friends, lost her battle with cancer on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. She was born December 24, 1929, the daughter of the late John David and Ruth Ellen Turner Plott. She was a dearly loved and adored wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

Dot was a devoted Christian and member of the Blueville Church of Christ since 1954 where she loved serving and helping others. For more than 10 years, she volunteered as a cook at the Bread of Life Mission in Grafton. She enjoyed sending cards & preparing meals for others in times of need. Dorothy loved cultivating flowers and enjoyed cooking and gardening. Some of her favorite times were spent shopping, dining out and listening to her favorite music. After retirement, she and JR enjoyed traveling to see their grandchildren in Colorado, California, New York and Maryland.

She is survived by: her beloved husband of 65 years, Harold "JR" Fortney; 4 children: Gayla & (Allan) Wick of Thornton, CO; Donna & (James) Morgan of Grafton, WV; Joseph & (Cheryl) Fortney of Texas; and Lisa & (Todd) Everly of Lusby, MD; 10 Grandchildren: Joshua & Alexandra Feagin; Rachel, Sarah & Jacob Morgan; Joshua and Travis Fortney; Abbie, Ashley & Ethan Everly; and 2 great- grandchildren: Axel William & Joshua Jackson Feagin; 3 sisters: Grace Darlene Haddix of Grafton; Elizabeth Ellen (Penny) & (Donald) McGinnis of Alma, AR; & Brenda Vicars of Thorntown, IN; 1 brother: Terry Plott of Grafton, WV as well as numerous relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by two brothers: John Edward Plott and James David Plott.

Friends may call at Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave. on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 from 3-8PM. Funeral services will be conducted at the Blueville Church of Christ at 2:00PM. Thursday, July 28, 2016 with Minister: James Lewis officiating. Dorothy will lie in repose at the Church from 12:00 Noon on Thursday, until the funeral hour at 2:00PM Interment will follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery.
