Catherine Hamric Kalo, 89, passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at her home in Grafton. She was born August 31, 1925 in Grantsville, Calhoun County, WV, the daughter of the late E. Staley Hamric and Beatrice Lake Hamric. A resident of Grafton since 1931, she graduated from Grafton High School in the Class of 1943. She attended WVU where she received a BA degree in 1947 and was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority. She was employed in the Chillicothe, OH Public School System before marriage. On January 3, 1949 she married Jasper (Jay) Kalo formerly of Morgantown. She was Vice President of Kalo Motors, Inc. from 1966-1989.
She is survived by Jay and four daughters: Cynthia Steenstra and husband Carl of Grafton, Marlene Kalo, Sharon Tzavaras and husband Peter of Morgantown, Laura Kalo Gow and husband David of Quebec, Canada. Grandchildren are: Erica Steenstra Bunner (husband,Curt) of Crestview Hills, KY, Jeremy Steenstra (wife, Aterra) of Morgantown, and Lauren Fellner of NYC, NY, and Great-grandson Carlin Bunner.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Grafton at an early age and a regular choir member for many years. Locally, she attended GFWC WV Woman's Club of Grafton for over 50 years, Tygart Lake Woman's Golf Association for 26 years participating in the regular Ladies Day, bowled in a league in past years and was a bridge group participant until recently.
Graveside Services will be at Woodsdale Memorial Park Saturday, August 15, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. David Spence officiating. Bartlett Funeral Home is assisting the Kalo family. Memorials may be given to Hospice Care, the Taylor County Health Department, PURR, the Taylor County Humane Society, the Taylor County Community Fund or the charity of one's choice.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers, Hospice personnel, the Taylor County Health Department, the staff of the Grafton City Hospital, and the neighbors for all the care and kindnesses in past months.
