Margaret Louise Henderson

 Margaret “Louise” Henderson, 89, of Grafton passed on to eternal Happy Acres on April 21, 2024. She was born in Grafton, December 15, 1934, daughter of Spurgeon “Pus” Summers and Edith Compton Summers. Louise was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Harvey Henderson, June 14, 2014. 

Louise graduated from Grafton High School, Class of 1952. Louise & her sisters worked at the Grafton Drive In during its heyday while they were in school and their family operated it.

She was a faithful member of Haymond United Methodist Church, where she met Bill in 1950. They were married in Cumberland, MD on November 22, 1951. For three years, they lived in the Honeymoon cabin complete with a two-seater outhouse on Happy Acres. They then moved on to Cherry Run where they had three daughters. Fourteen years later, they then had another daughter and son. 

Louise & Bill went on to remodel five homes and build five homes in Grafton, Hatteras Island, NC and Elizabeth City, NC. Upon Bill’s retirement from the USPS, they would spend the winter and spring months on Hatteras Island where they attended the Buxton United Methodist Church for 20+ years and then 8+ years in Elizabeth City, NC where they attended City Roads United Methodist Church.

Louise was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing and took great pride in the numerous quilts she assembled. She sang in the church choirs and played the piano every day, whether at home or at church. She was a quiet, faithful, kind hearted woman that loved her family and was happiest when she was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren while creating keepsakes and precious memories.

Louise is survived by five children: Sheree Lee Wetzel (Bob), Morgantown; Jill Ann Jenkins (Jim), Mars Hill, NC; Susan Henderson Closson (Joe), Fairmont; Christina Joy Rauscher (Kent), Southern Shores, NC; William Clay Henderson (Joy), Grafton. Eight grandchildren: Courtney Wetzel, Kirby Fisher, Kaitryn Villano, Eric Jenkins, Ross Jenkins, Kallin Closson, William Noah Henderson and Mia Jo Henderson. Five great grandchildren: Aidan Jenkins, Bella Jenkins, Grey Fisher, Axel Fisher and Ziggy Villano. One sister, Linda Snyder, Windsor, CA and numerous cousins, nieces & nephews who were very dear to her heart.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one grandson, Joseph Andrew Closson and one sister, Yvonne Sweetnich.

The family will celebrate Louise’s life and receive friends at Bartlett Funeral Home 202 McGraw Ave. Grafton, WV.  on Sunday, April 28, 2024 from 4PM until 7PM and on Monday, April 29,2024 from 9:00AM until 12:00PM the hour of the funeral, with Dr. Michael Richards and Pam Gallagher officiating. Interment will follow at the West Virginia National Cemetery.
